Manning Cabin was determined eligible for listing on the National Register. Significance of the cabin lies in its association with the administration of the National Forest & National Monument & its association with a prominent Arizona pioneer, & settlement of the West. Period of significance 1905.

First cabin in area built for summmer recreation & escape from city heat. Manning was Surveyor General of Territory of Arizona & later Mayor of Tucson. Used by USFS 1922-39 to house fire & trail crews. Used by NPS since 1940 for same purposes.

One story, 60' x 22', log cabin with 2 rooms connected by enclosed "possum trot" walkway. The building has a gabled roof and a large stone end chimney. The lower portion of the exterior walls are log chinked with mortar and the gable ends are wood shingle. Wood sash windows.
